At Eastfield we are passionate about making sure that Art and D.T is stimulating  and  inclusive. We strongly believe in the quote from Pablo Picasso ‘that every child is an Artist’. We strive to make sure that our children are excited by Art  and D.T and that they are given the opportunity  to explore different Artists, craft makers, architects and designers from a well-rounded, diverse, historical and  culture rich perspective. 

Children are given the freedom to explore new techniques and given the opportunity to  work with different materials, experiment, develop skills, explore various mechanical systems, electrical systems, cooking and nutrition, self expression and sensory experiences. They use sketchbooks to help develop their inner creativity and imagination. 

Our children are encouraged to think critically and learn the correct terminology and vocabulary when discussing their work or the work of others. Throughout their time at Eastfield they will learn different drawing techniques, work with textiles, paints, printing, create colleges and produce wonderful pieces of work that they will be proud of. They are also given the opportunity to create and design using technology.

At Eastfield, we aim to prepare and keep our children safe for the ever changing digital world. Our structured computing curriculum teaches our pupils the core computing and technology principles. We equip our children with the necessary skills so they can access the Internet and use the World Wide Web in a safe and respectful way. 

In order to develop digitally literate citizens we equip our pupils with knowledge and skills of computer science and information technology. The core of our computing is computer science, in which our children are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, our pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content.

In the Early Years, we are passionate about providing children with the best possible start to their school life. We strive to ensure our children are happy, enthusiastic and confident learners. We want children to feel happy, safe and secure, in an enabling environment, both inside and out, building on individual wants, needs and interests. Within our EYFS, everyone is valued and respected. Our classrooms are accessible to all, allowing children to gain independence whilst exploring and learning safely. Learning is fun, engaging and challenging. Children are immersed in a language rich environment and adults provide high quality interactions to develop and deepen learning opportunities. We deliver our curriculum through a balance of adult led and child-initiated activities. We believe that all children deserve to be valued as an individual and we are passionate in allowing all children to achieve their full, unique potential.

At Eastfield Primary School we strive to give every child the confidence and skills to become happy, fluent readers, who enjoy reading for pleasure. Reading is the foundation of our curriculum and as a school we believe it is important to inspire lifelong readers, right from the start of their educational journey. Adults read high quality stories to children daily and children have access to these books in their class reading areas. At Eastfield Primary School, we teach daily phonics using the Read, Write, Inc scheme to inspire our children to become confident readers through a structured approach. Children are provided with high quality teaching and reading books that help them to decode successfully and confidently in order to become fluent readers. Adults support children to use their phonic knowledge in everyday life, to enrich their reading.

Geography

Through Eastfield’s diverse and ambitious Geography curriculum, we aim to develop a curiosity for the world within children. Children are exposed to learning opportunities which develop in-depth knowledge and skills, investigating the human and physical areas of Geography. Through the exploration of place and the relationships between environments and the people who live in them, children can not only develop passion and admiration for the current world we live in but evolve into Geographers.

History

At Eastfield we have a structured history curriculum that allows our children to become historians who are inspired and fascinated by the past and for all pupils to have a passion for Britain and the wider world’s history through investigative learning. The fascination with history begins in the early years through hands on and personal learning experiences. Vocabulary is at the heart of our learning which is very important to the children’s understanding. At Eastfield our history curriculum is there to help children to understand the diversity of human experience. History is important as it provides children with the opportunities to empathise with others, argue a point of view and reach their own conclusions – essential skills that are prized in adult life. Therefore, we aim for a high-quality history curriculum that has been carefully designed and sequenced to equip our children with a secure, coherent knowledge of British, local and world history.

Learning Sites

At Eastfield, we provide a challenging, ambitious maths curriculum that inspires curiosity, fosters critical thinking and empowers pupils to become confident problem solvers. Through our structured concrete, pictorial and abstract (CPA) approach and supportive learning environment, we aim to cultivate a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, promoting lifelong skills that extend beyond the classroom. Our vision is to nurture a love for mathematics, ensuring every pupil thrives academically and develops the resilience needed for future challenges.

Across the Early Years Foundation Stage, children are introduced to early number and new maths skills through the Numberblocks Programme devised by the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics). The characters bring maths to life whilst providing children with an understanding of number facts, mathematical vocabulary and introduces them to new mathematical concepts. Children have opportunities to consolidate what they have been taught during carpet sessions, through continuous provision.

Children in Reception also follow the NCETM Mastering Number Programme. This programme develops children’s fluency with number facts.

Our vision is for all children to develop an inherent love of music by immersing them in  music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians. We deliver our ambitious structured curriculum that enables our pupils to understand and verbalise the concepts behind the inter-related dimensions of music.

Our vibrant  music curriculum and extracurricular opportunities allow children performance opportunities allowing them to develop into confident individuals that are forthcoming in expressing their talents.

Our vision is for all children at Eastfield Primary School to experience an excellent physical education that leads to a healthy lifestyle, passion for sport and a range of teamwork and leadership skills. Our structured and ambitious PE curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils develop the fundamental skills and competence to excel in a wide range of physical activities which can be enjoyed by all pupils.Our high quality physical education curriculum and extra curricular clubs, inspire pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. 

P.E. and sport are a proud part of the Eastfield experience and we hope this continues to grow in the future and prepare our children for life after Eastfield.

At Eastfield, we are passionate about providing a diverse and enquiry based curriculum that encourages children to engage in ambitious theological discussions. The children’s passion for RE is nurtured through a well-structured and progressive curriculum, which enables the children to develop a deep understanding of the world’s six major religions. Furthermore, we aim to develop the knowledge they need to question, debate, compare and critically assess the answers to different theological questions. In addition, we believe that it is important to equip children with the skills that enable them to go into the world as curious, independent thinkers, who are able to make positive contributions to the local community.

The Right of Withdrawal from Religious Education 

The RE syllabus is relevant to all pupils and respects personal beliefs. We welcome parents/carers to discuss our RE curriculum. 

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of the RE curriculum. 

 We have a duty to supervise any pupils who have been withdrawn from RE, but not to:

• Provide additional teaching that is not RE
• Incur extra cost

At Eastfield, our vision is for all children to develop a lifelong passion for reading which is developed and nurtured through our Destination Reader approach.  Our young readers are introduced to a variety of authors and fictional texts from different backgrounds, cultures and time periods as well as being exposed to factual and poetic pieces.  Our structured and ambitious approach to reading allows children to become fluent at reading and understanding texts and are able to answer a variety of question types.

We use vocabulary rich discussions where all children are engaged and able to achieve to inspire imagination and foster new interests.  By the end of their time at primary school, Eastfield children have developed a passion for books and honed the tools required for the next step in their educational journey.

At Eastfield, we aim to encourage curiosity in children so that they ask questions that fuel explorations and investigations about the universe we live in.

Children develop their scientific skills and knowledge through investigations, practical activities and real-life experiences.  As young scientists, the structured ambitious curriculum inspires children to achieve and encourages them to enquire and investigate the world around them. We provide a vocabulary-rich learning experience supplemented by visitors from a variety of different backgrounds and educational visits to encourage our children to develop a sense of “excitement and curiosity” about natural phenomena.

At Eastfield, our vision for PSHE education is to cultivate ‘lifelong learners’ who embody confidence and possess the skills to make well-informed choices throughout their lives. We recognise PSHE as a crucial avenue for nurturing these skills, enabling our children to navigate new experiences, meet challenges head-on, and thrive in unfamiliar situations. Our commitment extends to imparting a comprehensive understanding of human rights, fostering a healthy mind and body, promoting independence, and instilling a sense of responsibility as active and conscientious members of society. Through dynamic PSHE education, Eastfield aims to empower students with the knowledge and skills essential for personal growth, resilience, and positive social engagement.

We want all children to grow up healthy, happy, safe, and able to manage the challenges and opportunities of modern Britain. That is why, from September 2020, all primary age children will be taught Relationships and Health Education. These subjects are designed to equip your child with knowledge to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships as well as preparing them for a successful adult life. The world for all young people looks very different from the way it did 20 years ago when this curriculum was last updated – these changes bring the content into the 21st century, so that it is relevant for your child. Parent meetings were held week beginning 15th January. If you were unable to attend, the presentation used during the meeting can be found at the beginning of the year group lessons.

At Eastfield Primary School, we have designed an English curriculum to suit the needs of all children. The development of children’s language and vocabulary is crucial to their success and an important life skill. We want all children to be excellent writers, who are creative, imaginative and skillful. As an inclusive school we want all children to achieve, develop and build a love for writing. The Write Stuff  and Fantastic Foundations approach to teaching provides a clear view of what successful writers look like. At the heart of each lesson in both Fantastic Foundations and The Write Stuff, Children are exposed to high level vocabulary as well as being encouraged to devise their own. Each lesson is clearly structured and children are given a clear model on which to aid their own writing. The writing approach builds on children’s confidence with sentence structure and different grammatical skills which helps to deepen the writing and create cohesion. Children are introduced to a wide range of texts which are culturally diverse, fiction and non – fiction based allowing our children to write for a range of purposes. The approach allows all children to become successful and confident writers.
