Ethos and Values
Our aims are for all children to be socially, emotionally and academically confident and well prepared for the next stage of their education by the time they leave Eastfield Primary School.

Social Intelligence
is the ability to understand and handle social situations well. It means recognising social signals, understanding others’ feelings, and responding appropriately. This helps in building relationships, communicating clearly, and working well with others.
Academic Success
Is when pupils are able to meet the learning goals through mastering basic skills in reading, writing, and maths. Strong behaviour for learning is essential to develop a strong foundation for future learning.
Promoting British Values at Eastfield Primary School
At Eastfield, British values are taught and celebrated through our school ethos and everyday practice. We focus on the five key values: democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
Democracy
- Pupils vote for school council members and eco committee.
- Children share ideas for school improvements and help make decisions, e.g. voting for playground equipment.
- Ivy Parliament highlights democracy and pupil voice.
- Assemblies, PSHE, and discussion across the curriculum explore fairness, equality, and responsibility.
The rule of law
- School rules are created and followed by pupils.
- Children learn why rules and laws are important and the consequences of breaking them.
- Police visits and the Year 6 Junior Citizens programme teach rights, responsibilities, and safety.
Individual liberty
- Pupils are encouraged to make safe, informed choices within a supportive environment.
- We teach children about rights, responsibilities, and staying safe through PSHE, e-safety, and assemblies.
- Anti-bullying work and a whole-school focus on wellbeing help pupils feel empowered and supported.
Mutual respect
- Respect is central to our school values and behaviour expectations.
- Pupils learn how their actions affect others and are encouraged to work cooperatively.
- We celebrate kindness, honesty, creativity, and inclusivity in all areas of school life.
Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs
- Our diverse school celebrates a wide range of faiths and cultures.
- RE, PSHE, and assemblies promote understanding and respect.
- Visitors and educational visits to places of worship enrich children’s learning.
At Eastfield, we aim to develop aspirational, inclusive, creative, and kind individuals who contribute positively to their community and the wider world.
